A shopping centre is undergoing a culture renovation to celebrated the launch of the 2019 London Borough of Culture.

The Mall in Walthamstow has joined residents and businesses across the borough to celebrate its culture.

In support of the £1.35 million funding and award given to Waltham Forest, The Mall has transformed its Ask Me Point information desk into a London Borough of Culture Hub.

The shopping centre's marketing manager Richard Jones said: "We wanted to turn our Ask Me point in to a London Borough Hub as we are right at the heart of Walthamstow.

"As a community centre we felt that it was crucial for us to provide the very best, up-to-date information on London Borough of Culture events taking place in the locality.

"We are ideally placed for visitors coming to Walthamstow; we have good transport links and are close to the Underground, bus station and Walthamstow Central train station."

The desk will represent four of London Borough of Culture’s biggest events with a design which will change seasonally.

Additionally, The Mall has rebranded its RewardMe membership card, launching a special edition of the card with a new design and extended retailer offers.

The shopping centre's general manager Rebecca Bird said: "We are long-term investors in Walthamstow and were proud to support its bid to be London Borough of Culture. We look forward to working with Waltham Forest Council to make this year an unforgettable celebration of the Borough’s unique creative heritage."

More than 70,000 guests attended the ‘Welcome to the Forest’ opening event, which took place from January 11 to 13 in Waltham Forest Town Hall and Lloyd Park and featured a series of audio and visual installations inspired by the themes of Radicals, Makers and Fellowship.
