A new club looking to support girls in becoming bold young women is launching.

Girls Friendly Society in Leytonstone, a group for girls and young women aged 5 to 11, is looking for new members.

The group is hosting a launch event on March 12 to coincide with International Women's Day to allow interested parties to find out more about the group, try out some activities and speak to the volunteering team.

London and the south regional development coordinator at the society Jemma Moonie-Dalton said: "Our Girls Friendly Society groups are great places for the girls to have fun, make friends and learn new skills. This alone can have a significant impact on how they feel about themselves, other people and the world around them.

"Girls get the chance to engage with an exciting and varied programme of activities from camping and local trips out, to taking part in creative sessions and learning new skills.

"Our Girls Friendly Society volunteers work together to plan and run activities, events and trips out for groups of girls and young women all over England and Wales.

"Activities take place in a safe, non-judgemental, single-gender space where play and socialising are encouraged through positive relationships with fellow Girls Friendly Society girls and female volunteer role models.

"Sessions offer opportunities for girls and young women to play, be creative, get active, develop skills and a sense of belonging, feel good about themselves. – and most importantly, to have fun."

The project is supported by Head of Waltham Forest Council Claire Coghill.

The launch event will run from 5.30pm to 7pm on March 12 at St John the Baptist on High Road in Leytonstone.

Anyone interested in signing up to attend should visit: www.girlsfriendlysociety.org.uk/register.

For the launch event, it is preferred if girls attend with a parent, guardian or family member over the age of 16.
