A man has been charged with terrorism offences connected to Al Qa'ida.

Mohammed Yamin, 25, of east London, was charged with three counts of terrorism offences.

He was charged with engaging in terrorist acts, being a member of a proscribed organisation and possession of an article connected with terrorism.

He was found to have purchased equipment and clothing and purchased a one-way flight ticket to Syria.

He also had a gun in his possession which was connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

Officers discovered that he belonged to the Al Qa'ida terrorist organisation.

On Wednesday the Met's Counter Terrorism Command arrested Yamin as part of a pre-planned operation.

He was arrested at an address in east London and taken to a south London police station where he was later charged.

Yamin appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court, today and was remanded in custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on February 15.
