A group of A-Level students took part in a challenging biology competition in a bid to improve their chances of landing a place at university.
Twelve Year 12 pupils at West Hatch High School in Chigwell sat two exams as part of the Royal Society of Biology's British Biology Olympiad.
The event is open to youngsters across the country, challenging them to expand their talent in the natural sciences.
A spokesperson for West Hatch High School said: “Although the exam is challenging, it is something students can add to their personal statement for university and an experience they can mention at interview.
“The students gave up their own time to take part and all agreed it was a challenging yet rewarding experience.”
The results will be announced later this month, with high scoring students invited to attend an awards ceremony in London.
Those who receive top marks may also be selected to form the UK's team at the International Biology Olympiad.
