The construction of accommodation for homeless people has been delayed due to fears an unexploded bomb could be underground.
Workers installing the homeless pods at Norway House in North Weald downed tools after inspectors suggested digging 2m deep foundations could trigger potential WWII bombs.
Norway House was listed several years ago in recognition of its use as an officers’ mess for RAF North Weald during the Second World War.
The four pods at Norway House were due for completion on March 15 but have been delayed by three weeks.
When done they will house either two single residents or up to two single parents with one young child.
Each pod will have bedsit facilities, bathrooms and a shared kitchen, with the project to cost £345,000.
A further container will provide storage space.
