Happy Valentine's Day.

While some may see today as the perfect opportunity for romance and others a prime time to gripe about the "commercialisation of love", there is a third way.

The National Animal Welfare trust in Watford is urging romancers and moaners to channel that energy into a cute, fluffy companion.

The Trust has compiled a list of animals who have spent a long time with the staff at the rescue shelter and are now in need of adoption.

So why not spread a little love this Valentine's Day and adopt a pet?

Being a big lad this can being intimidating, but deep down he's a clever dog who just didn't have the best start in life. Fudge was relinquished into our care due to not coping with a visiting grandchild, for this reason he needs an adult only home. He will need a little extra time and patience to adjust into a home environment but he would reward his owner with lots of cuddles.

Name: Snowy and Stewart

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

Species: Rabbit pair

Age: 2 years and 10 months

Time at NAWT: Nine months

Bio: Snowy and Stewart came into NAWT care separately. Rabbits get lonely very easily and both rabbits were showing signs of stress, so we made the decision to introduce them to each other. Thankfully they get on really well, are no longer lonely but are looking for a home together! Snowy is a sweet female rabbit who enjoys being stroked but can be a little wary of being picked up, however Stewart is teaching her that cuddles are not all that bad as he loves them. They're looking for a home with a family who have children aged 5 and over.
