Southend Council will be paying 16 staff members’ salaries averaging more than £100,000 each.

Details of the salaries have been outlined in a pay policy report which requires the council to provide a breakdown of how much each of its senior staff members are being paid each year.

The positions, which range from directors and strategic directors to director of public health and a chief executive, are reported to come with salaries ranging from £90,534 for a director to £156,000 for a chief executive.

In total they will cost the council a total of around £1,636,793 in 2019/20.

The report also highlights that the lowest paid members of staff are earning £16,394 - or £139,606 less that the highest paid, with salaries of just The chief executive also earns over five times more than the average council salary of £25,405.
