A husband and wife duo's burgling spree came to an end when they were spotted with stolen goods while in McDonald's drive-through.

Rifat Mehmet, 43, and his wife Sonya Mehmet, 38, both of Charlecote Road, Dagenham, headed from their home address to Chigwell in October last year.

There they broke into two houses, making off with valuable items and credit cards.

The victims' bank cards were then used in various locations in Dagenham.

The Mehmets were caught on CCTV going through McDonald’s drive-through with a stolen bike on the roof rack and with stolen tools inside.

Sonya Mehmet’s phone later showed she was in Chigwell during the time of the burglaries.

Mr Mehmet received two year concurrent sentences for three counts of burglary and 12 month concurrent sentences for two counts of fraud by false representation.

His wife was given two year concurrent sentences for two counts of burglary and a 12 month concurrent sentence for one count of fraud by false representation.
