A woman celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family.

Dorothy Winn a resident at Bradley House care home in Horn Lane, Woodford Green, turned 100 on Saturday (February 16).

A surprise party was arranged with her friends and family to celebrate the milestone.

She amazed between 60 and 70 guests at her 100th birthday party by singing a Hindi song that her mother taught her in the 1920's.

Her parents John and Gertrude Ballance met in India where John was stationed by the army.

The couple had nine children, seven of whom were born in India, however Mrs Winn and her younger sister Winnie were born in Manchester where the family settled after Mr Ballance was discharged from the army.

During the war, Mrs Winn was a bus conductress, popularly known as a Clippie, on the trolley buses.

Over the years, she has shared many stories of her time in this post with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On top of the celebrations, Mrs Winn also received a signed letters from the Queen and the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Amber Rudd MP.

She said: "It was a very nice and unexpected surprise for my birthday.

"I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed seeing everyone there singing me 'Happy Birthday', that was probably my favourite part of the party."
