Primary school pupils joined senior members of a poetry group to celebrate the past and future.

The Redbridge Rhymesters poetry group welcomed students from Snaresbrook Primary School to The Allan Burgess Centre in Grove Park, Wanstead yesterday (March 5).

The theme for the March meeting was 'Back to the Future' where senior poets wrote poems on life 50 years ago and children created poems about what they think life will be like in 50 years' time.

Founder of the Redbridge Rhymesters Alexandra Wilde said: "We had a wonderful session with the children from Snaresbrook Primary School - they are so imaginative and produced some brilliant poetry, on their vision of what life will be like in 50 years’ time - some were concerned about the way our people and planet are going, others were hopeful, and every one had given so much thought and insight into the subject.

"It can be quite daunting to stand up and speak in public, but all the children recited their poems, and it was so uplifting to have young people writing and performing their work.

"The more senior poets had great fun reminiscing about life 50 (or more) years ago; the blend of old and young people meant we took up ideas, talked about past and present, and learned a lot from each other in the process."

Another meeting is currently being planned with the students in October.
