An arrest has been made in the horrific multiple stabbing of a man.

An 18-year-old was arrested yesterday (March 7) on suspicion of murder of David Martinez-Valencia, 26, who was killed in Leyton on Wednesday (March 6).

Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance were called to North Birkbeck Road in Leyton at 4.26pm.

Mr Martinez-Valencia was found suffering with knife injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.10pm.

A post mortem took place yesterday at Walthamstow Mortuary and confirmation on the cause of death is expected soon.

It is believed Mr Martinez-Valencia was attacked at a nearby residential address, where he was stabbed six times - at least once in the neck, before he left the scene and collapsed in the arms of strangers on North Birkbeck Road.

The horrific incident was witnessed by children as young as two as passers-by and paramedics battled for 45 minutes to save his life.

According to The Sun an officer begged the man to stay awake as he lay dying, pleading: "My friend. Mate, mate, mate, talk to me. Can you hear me?"

At this stage it is understood the victim and suspect knew each other.

Although formal identification awaits, the deceased has been named as David Steven Martinez-Valencia, who had dual Spanish and Colombian nationality.

The incident is not thought to be gang-related.

Enquiries continue by detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, being led by Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole of the command.
