Two under 11's football teams shot to the top and won places to compete in a national competition.

The girls' teams from Aldersbrook Primary School in Harpenden Road near Wanstead and Churchfields Junior School in Redbridge competed in The Natioanal League Trust Competition on February 27 making it to the Southern Area Finals.

Both teams had already competed in their local tournament held at Ive Farm Sports Ground in Leyton and won the chance to compete at the South East (North) Regional Final.

Each team played in groups of seven with the top four teams contesting semi-finals before an ultimate final to determine the respective winners.

The Churchfields team won all of their games while the Aldersbrook team lost only one group game.

Captain of the Aldersbrook team, Brooke Haylock, said: "It was fantastic to represent Leyton Orient FC and wear a professional team kit in the National League cup. We hope to win the overall tournament and play at Wembley and I score, which is a dream of mine."

Both teams will now compete at the Southern Area Finals on March 20 held at Eastleigh FC, with a chance to play at Wembley prior to the National League Play-Off Final, against their northern counterparts.

But first they will have to defeat opponents including representatives from Torquay United, Dartford and Oxford City.

Leyton Orient community liaison officer said Howard Gould said: "It was a pleasure watching the teams playing in the O’s kits although a little difficult at times trying to be in two places at one time (when both teams playing simultaneously). But both Aldersbrook and Churchfields were a credit to their schools and represented Leyton Orient superbly."

Leyton Orient's Defender Leyre Bastyr visited Aldersbrook Primary school as part of International Woman's Week this week.

After hosting two assemblies where she spoke to the children about being a female footballer and her career as a translator, Miss Bastyr posed for photo's with the girls who will represent the Leyton Orient's at Eastleigh FC, later this month.
