Jewish children have prepared for the upcoming Passover celebrations with a practice Seder.

Children from the East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue in South Woodford has prepared for the Passover celebrations from Friday, April 19 to Saturday, April 27 by undertaking a practice Seder.

A Seder is a tradition which dates back thousands of years to the first two nights of Passover, where families and communities come together to discuss the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt lead by Moses.

The participating children read through the story, sang songs and ate unleavened bread called Matzo symbolising when the Israelites left Egypt in such a rush that there was no time for the dough to rise.

Headteacher of the religion school at East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue Paul Bloomfield said: "Pesach is a really special time in the Jewish calendar, when we celebrate where we came from. It's packed full of tradition and customs with a real sense of passing down our history to the next generation.

"We were lucky enough to have the lovely Ellie Lawson from Liberal Judaism's youth group LJY-Netzer come down to take the service and the children had a great time."
