Hundreds of residents turned out to celebrate Loughton Town Council’s the tenth annual charity fun run yesterday.

The 4k challenge was held at Roding Valley Recreation Ground where all proceeds raised by runners were donated to St Clare Hospice.

Participants met at 10.30am by the tennis courts on Roding Road followed by a 10-minute warm-up session at Snap Fitness Debden before tackling the course.

Suitable for all ages and abilities, children, parents with pushchairs and dog walkers took part in honour of this year charity chosen by town Mayor Stephen Murray.

Speaking about the event, Cllr Murray said: “It was a fantastic event raising money for an incredible charity St Clare Hospice.

“Like others, my mum received incredible care in the last few weeks of her life from the hospice care team.

“A great community event with over 70 runners, course laid out and marshalled by Loughton Athletic Club members and refreshments provided by a team from the Restore community church.

“A lovely penultimate event for my year as Mayor.”

Describing the day as “a lovely penultimate event for my year as Mayor” Cllr Murray presented medals and congratulated runners as they passed the finishing line.

Free face-painting for children and refreshments including cake, tea and biscuits were also on offer for spectators and participants.
