People living in country towns and villages have been urged to vote for community projects to receive grants of up to £5,000.

Energy provider Calor's Community Fund offers prize pots of £1,000, £2,500 and £5,000 for projects that will improve local life.

This year there are 21 grants totalling up to £70,000 up for grabs, and there have been applications from 322 different projects from across the UK.

Among them are village halls, sailing clubs and sustainability campaigns.

Applications are now closed, so readers can now check out the approved projects and vote for those they feel are most deserving.

Anyone who lives in the UK and registers on the Calor Rural Community Fund website can vote using their phone, tablet or computer. Every person gets 10 votes, which can be used for several projects, or simply all for the one that you think deserves the funding the most.

Once votes are in, the projects with the most votes will be reviewed by a panel of independent judges –including mental health charity, ‘Mind’, Crowdfunder, Plunkett and Rural England, who will help decide the winners. The decision will be announced on July 18.

To register, visit www.calor.co.uk/communityfund. Voting closes on June 17.
