Twenty college students went head-to-head in a fundraising challenge to raise as much money for the RSPCA.

Students studying Level One Business, Media and ICT from New City College, Epping Campus, managed to raise a total of £220.

Teacher Jon Bennett said the charity task was one of their course units called ‘raising money for a charitable event’.

“I think they were very surprised how much raised, they did very well,” said Mr Bennett. “They worked well together, and they were determined to raise as much money as they can I think the overall outcome was very good.

“One the day of each group was doing it I was keeping them updated of how much money they raised to push it as much as they could.”

Mr Bennett said the college students chose the animal rescue and welfare charity because of the of the quick response, resource and information they received.

To heat things up, the pet-loving pupils was split into two groups and held day-long fundraising events on Wednesday, 6 March and Tuesday, March 19 respectively.

The arrangement to officially hand the donation to took place after the Easter break.

RSCPA representatives, Rahul Jethwa and Joey Wong, officially collected the donation from the college shortly after the Easter break and gave a talk to students.
