Spaces are still available for those wanted to take part in the district’s Race for Life.

The countdown to the popular fundraising has officially begun, with just two weeks left to sign up the event at North Weald Airfield on Wednesday, July 10.

For the first time, Cancer Research UK is inviting everyone – men, women and children – to run, jog or walk in memory of loved ones lost to the disease.

Megan Bailey, event manager for Race for Life in Epping, said: “We’re making a final call to the people of Epping to sign up today, as their participation and contribution is so important.

“Every day, around 90 people are diagnosed with cancer in the East of England.

“That’s why we are calling on everyone in the city – of all ages – to unite and help make a real different in the fight against the disease by joining Race for Life now.

Runners are invited to wear bright, colourful clothing and is suitable for those who do as much or little training prior to the big day.

A popular event up and down the country Race for Life aims to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have been lost or battling cancer.

Money raised through Race for Life will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

Ms Bailey added: “By taking part and raising money, participants will play a crucial role in helping to turn discoveries made in the lab into new, better treatments for patients across Epping and throughout the UK.

“That’s why every person and every penny raised counts.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before.

Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
