A family-run security centre recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Dennis Security Centre, in Wood Street, Walthamstow, deals with all types of locks, safes, CCTV, access control, security doors, gates and shutters.

Established on June 13, 1959, the business has grown from a hardware shop run by Dennis and Audrey Hustwitt, a couple who lived above the shop, to a thriving business that covers the whole of London and the Home Counties with national clients.

The security side of the business started when Dennis was often asked if he cut keys. An engineer by trade, he set about a making his first key machine.

Back in 1950s and 60s a lorry would arrive from a china wholesalers and Dennis would negotiate a cost for the whole lorry load of china.

He and Audrey would then stay up all night sorting it into tea sets, which always sold very well, especially at Christmas

The business started to grow, also selling coal, before eventually specialising in security.

When Dennis and Audrey retired the business was passed down through by their eldest daughter Val and her husband Dave, who grew the business further. It has now passed to the third generation, their children Matt and Joanna.Wright.

They said: "We are justifiably proud of being a third generation company that has maintained our ethos of service with integrity."
