Police investigating a fatal shooting in Leyton have made a third arrest.

A 27-year-old man from Stratford was pronounced dead after a reported shooting at the Phoenix Club, Lea Bridge Road. It happened shortly before 3am on Sunday (July 7).

Two men, aged 26 and 21, were later arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 26-year-old-man has been released under investigation and the 21-year-old-man has been released with no further action. Both men suffered non-life threatening injuries during the incident and were treated at an east London hospital.

Now, police have confirmed a 33-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of murder at Heathrow Airport on Sunday. He has been bailed to return to a police station at a later date.

Police were called to Lea Bridge Road on Sunday after reports of gunshots. Officers, including firearms officers, attended and found the 27-year-old Stratford man suffering from a gunshot injury.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the investigation into the alleged shooting.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley, who leads the investigation, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in or near the Phoenix Club to pick up the phone and call police now.

“Anyone with information about this brutal crime can contact the incident room, where detectives are ready to support you and take your call.”
