Children at a primary school made the day of elderly dementia patients by reading to them.

Five Year 6 pupils from Farnham Green Primary School in Ilford visited patients on the elderly care ward at King George Hospital.

During the visit they read from a number of books, including short stories and a book about the environment.

Lucy McLean, child and family worker at Farnham Green Primary School, said: “We do this to help boost the confidence of our Year 6 children before they go to secondary school, as well as to give back to the community.

“They have read to other children before but never adults so they were apprehensive but it went really well. They had a really good time and the patients seemed to enjoy it too. We’re hoping to come again.”
