Two sisters from Watford danced their way to the top of the standings at the Dance World Cup, held in Portugal.

Kristen-Leigh Petit, 10, and Kamara-Mai Petit, aged 5, spent nine days in Braga where they performed on the biggest stage possible.

The girls, who both attend Highwood Primary School in Bushey, took away medals alongside incredible memories at their maiden World Cup.

Kristen represented England as a soloist, placing sixth in the world. She took home silver and bronze medals. Her sister Kamara-Mai was one of the youngest competitors and she took away a silver medal.

Kristen-Leigh celebrates winning silver and bronze at the Dance World Cup

The sisters performed together in the mini song and dance category.

Their mother, Louise Harrison, who also doubles up as their dance teacher at the Graham School of Dance and Theatre Arts, based in Welwyn Garden City, could not hide her pride in her daughter's achievements.

She said: "I am immensely proud of both girls. Kristen-Leigh to be selected as a soloist to represent her country was overwhelming, not to mention placing in the top six in the world. She also came fifth in the world in the modern category.

"Kamara-Mai at five-years-old held her own as one of the youngest competitors in the entire competition and didn’t let the huge arena audience phase her. I’d like to say a big thank you to Jo Arnett Morrice, England team manager for the incredible opportunity."

Both girls had to go through an audition to reach the World Cup. In total, 54 countries and 6,000 participants took part in the event which began on June 27.
