Fast-food company McDonald’s contributes £6.4million annually to the Waltham Forest economy, bringing 380 jobs to the area.
The latest figures have been gathered in the company’s economic report to celebrate 45 years since opening in the UK.
Waltham Forest franchisee John Loizou, who operates six restaurants in London, often organises litter patrols, most recently cleaning the Waltham Forest restaurant.
The team of 30 volunteers collected 25 bags of rubbish, as part of a much-needed refresh to the area around Town Mead Park on Brooker Road.
Mr Loizou said: “Creating and sustaining jobs across this part of London is of huge importance to me, and the fact that we have been able to make a significant financial contribution to the area is something my team and I are very proud of”.
“We employ people based on their qualities not their qualifications but, as the worlds of business and education move closer, there’s no longer a need to decide between learning and earning”.
The McDonalds franchisee also supported a Fun Football Festival, where the event, hosted by Waltham Abbey sports club Ryan FC in Waltham Abbey and supported by grassroots football ambassador for McDonald, Ray Parlour.
“There’s also no such thing as a typical 9-5 at my restaurants,” added Mr Loizou. “We know that people take a job with McDonald's for all sorts of reasons, from wanting to earn some extra cash while studying at colleges or universities, to needing a flexible job that fits around childcare.
“That's why it's so important to us that we offer our employees flexible working options.”
Several McDonald’s restaurants across the country are continuing to invest in and grow both its High Street and Drive-Thru operations, in several town centres.
Without including its supply chain, in 2017 alone, McDonald’s directly generated more than £5.43m in the area, employing 327 people.
The economic report also details the many changes the business has undergone to meet customer needs and the key challenges it faces as it heads towards its 50th year in 2024.
In London as a whole McDonald’s has contributed £278m and supported 16,748 jobs.
