Graffiti workshops, kayaking and cycling are among activities for children and young people this summer - with free hot meals available for some children.

Waltham Forest Council’s Summer Holiday Activities Programme will run until Friday, August 23 with activities for families, children and teenagers, including sports, music, theatre and cinema.

For children between 5 and 11 there will be workshops, tea parties craft sessions and sports. They will be led by Waltham Forest Play Workers, and will help children to learn new skills and make friends.

Cllr Clare Coghill, leader of Waltham Forest Council, said: “We are all too aware that finding activities and the money to keep children entertained at this time of year can be a challenge.

"As part of the council’s commitment to helping families, our holiday activities programme aims to provide opportunities for all children, young people and families to take part in fun and engaging activities that will enable hidden talents and interests to be found, helping young residents to make the most of their life chances.”

There will also be free hot meals available for children taking part from George Tomlinson Primary School, Greenleaf Primary School, Chapel End Infants School, Handsworth Primary School and Edinburgh Primary School.

Young people between 11 and 19 years old will have the opportunities to take part in a range of exciting activities, such as acting, entrepreneur’s workshops, art, and sports like hockey or canoeing.

For children up to eight there will be a playbus and games.

All activities for teenagers will be suitable for those with special needs and disabilities.

Although activities for those between 5 and 11 years old no booking is required, bookings for those between 11 and 19 is recommended as soon as possible.
