- A police officer is being treated in hospital after being attacked with a machete.
- The incident happened shortly after midnight on Thursday (August 8) at the junction between Coopers Lane and Leyton High Road, Leyton.
- The incident happened after a driver, aged in his 50s, failed to stop for police.
- He was followed by police and stopped a short while later. But when police went to speak to the driver, an officer was stabbed a number of times by the driver.
- The injured officer, aged in his thirties, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical but stable condition.
- The suspect has been arrested.
