A man has been charged after a police officer was stabbed with a machete.
Muhammed Rodwan, 56, of Villiers Close, Luton, was charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon on the evening of Thursday (August 8).
Rodwan is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on this morning (Friday, 9 August).
The stabbing happened shortly after midnight on Thursday (August 8) at the junction between Coopers Lane and Leyton High Road, Leyton.
The injured officer, 28, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. He was treated for a wound to the side of his head and an injured hand.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
His family have been informed and are receiving support from Metropolitan Police Service family liaison officers.
