A doctor’s practice has seen massive improvements since previous inadequate inspections.

Dr Shantir’s Practice at Forest Road Medical Centre in Forest Road, Waltham Forest, has received a ‘good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after being previously rated ‘inadequate’ on November 14, 2018.

The latest CQC inspection on July 2, 2019, found the safety services – in safeguarding patients, safe management of medicine, emergency risk assessments and well-maintained equipment and policies – were drastically improved after previous breaches.

The surgery was first found to be ‘inadequate’ after an inspection on October 10, 2017, due to breaches of regulation identified in medicines, managements and patient satisfaction.

An inspection on November 14, 2018, found that these identified breaches were not improved.

Now, the quality of an effective, caring and well-led services were among the ‘good’ ratings by the CQC. A newly recruited business manager and leader helped direct such improvements and gave staff members clearer roles, responsibilities and accountabilities.

The clinic’s responsive services still needs improvement according to the CQC, despite an improvement by introducing increased opening hours and implementing a new telephone system.

Dr Shantir’s practice will now continue operating from the Forest Road Medical Centre, while neighbouring medical branches like Dr Ivbijaro’s practice have announced the closure of their surgery.

Dr Yousef Shantir, the leading doctor, said: “There has been confusion due to Dr Ivbijaro's branch practice announcing plans to close their site at Forest Road Medical Centre and consolidate in their main location at Wood Street.

“Some residents seem to be under the impression that all services at Forest Road Medical Centre are closing and are subsequently registering at other surgeries.”

Patients of the closing practice are being accepted by Dr Shantir. A proposal for extra clinical rooms will be submitted to keep up with the demand of extra patients.
