A popular poetry group will be holding a ‘spooky’ meeting as they unite senior and youngster poets.

The Redbridge Rhymesters, a poetry group which was founded 11-years-ago, will be holding a meeting, uniting pupils from Snaresbrook Primary School and older participants just in time for Older People’s Week.

This session will be Halloween themed, preparing the poets for the spooky day which takes place at the end of October.

For the past three years, Snaresbrook Primary School adopted AgeUK Redbridge, a charity which supports older people, to raise funds for the charity.

In the session, children will be able to meet some of the people who use AgeUK Redbridge centre, the Allan Burgess Activity Centre, to see where the money raised is going and the people it helps.

During the one-hour session, everyone is encouraged to write their own poetry and even perform it.

The meeting will even see international guests as poets from Hong Kong and Finland will also be flying down to Redbridge to share their own poems.

The Redbridge Rhymesters are encouraging children from Snaresbrook Primary School and other children to join the meeting held at the Allan Burges Centre, Wanstead, E11 2DL on October 1 at 10:30am.

Founder of the Redbridge Rhymesters, Alexandra Wilde, said: “The intergenerational meeting of creative minds always results in some brilliant poems, and gives the children a chance to learn how people from different eras and places can be encouraged to share their knowledge through reminiscing about past experiences, and preserve it through the medium of poetry.”
