Waltham Forest gardeners and growers have met with success in London-wide awards

The ‘London in Bloom Awards’ is an annual celebration of great green places and spaces in the capital.

Walthamstow Village in Bloom won the category for best entrant 2019, thanks to its year-round displays of flowers and plants.

Helen Lerner of the Walthamstow Village Group was chosen to be the 2019 Community Champion.

She said: “These marvellous results reflect the ongoing hard work and support of the whole village neighbourhood; there would be no community champion without a champion community!”

Other Waltham Forest projects also won awards.

The Wood Street South Gardening Club and Cleveland Park Residents’ Association were awarded silver gilt and gold awards respectively in the Our Community category, and both rated as outstanding in the It’s Your Neighbourhood category.

The Love North Chingford Gardening Group was awarded with 'establishing' and Love South Chingford Gardening Group with 'advancing' in the same category, with the Richmond Road Pocket Park Group bagging 'thriving' status.

Speaking about the awards success, Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:

“All across the borough residents have been rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in making their neighbourhoods even cleaner and greener.

“I’m delighted that the hard work and dedication of so many volunteers has been recognised in this year’s London in Bloom awards.

“I know I speak for the Waltham Forest community when I say a big thank you to everyone who gets out and gets involved in making their area a nicer and brighter place to live.”
