The Brexit MP candidate for the district has argued that the Prime Minister’s Brexit plan is a “very bad deal for the UK”.

Businessman and Epping MP hopeful Darren Selkus believes that Boris Johnson’s latest deal is no different to predecessor Theresa May’s proposal.

The 48-year-old is well known for openly to have backed Mr Johnson during the Brexit campaign by uploading videos of his opinions on Twitter.

will contest the constituency in the next general election, standing against current district MP, Dame Eleanor Laing.

The 48-year-old husband and father of two only considered pursuing politics after receiving a letter from the Brexit Party in May of this year.

He said: “All credit to Boris Johnson bravely attempting to agree a deal with the EU.

“A new five-point plan to replace the Northern Ireland backstop has been approved by the DUP.

“He also wants to change the political declaration's aspiration for a customs union aligned with EU law to a free trade agreement with the UK taking responsibility for its own regulatory affairs and trade policy.

“Is this ‘deal’ any different to Theresa May’s withdrawal treaty? If it looks, smells and tastes like Theresa May’s Withdrawal Treaty it probably is.”

The Brexit candidate said that the change to the backstop is a definite improvement should it be agreed by Ireland and the EU this month.

Mr Selkus also stated that unless a free trade agreement is written into the legally binding withdrawal treaty the UK be will likely be permanently part of the Customs Union.

“We will unable to do our own free trade deals and set tariffs,” he added. “Just replacing the Irish Backstop with the five-point plan is not Brexit. If you can ignore the spin and Boris Johnson’s charm and bluster it is still a very bad deal for the UK.”

He added: “Are the EU likely to scrap their red lines and grant us access to the single market without conforming to their rules, regulations, laws and freedom of movement?

“Recessions expose who has been swimming naked in frothy waters at full tide”. The big question is, will the EU do a deal, risk no-deal or wait for a UK General Election?”

Mr Selkus who only considered pursuing politics this year, will contest the constituency in the next general election, standing against current district MP, Dame Eleanor Laing.

The deadline for a decision on the UK to leave or remain the UK is Thursday, October 31.
