Schoolchildren armed with roadside speed detection devices joined police officers in catching speeding drivers red-handed.
On Monday, October 14 year six pupils from St Joseph’s Covenant Independent Primary School for Girls assisted police and Redbridge Council road safety officers in an initiative to tackle dangerous driving.
Groups of girls from the Wanstead school stood on the roadside helping operate speed detection devices as police officers pulled over speeding motorists.
Police handed out penalties to speeding drivers who were also asked to justify their actions to the girls.
A spokesperson for the school said: “We had a wonderful opportunity to keep schools and general locations safe from speed.
“Our girls were satisfied that most of the drivers took our important message to heart and now hopefully understand the importance of road safety.”
