More than 500 people attended the Sixth Form Open Evening to decide where to study A-Levels next September.

Expert advisers and staff where on hand to greet and advise visitors to Debden Park High School’s sixth form block ‘The Hive’ on Willingale Road, Loughton.

Parents and pupils visiting from nearby schools where given a tour highlighting the numerous courses and activities available taught at Key Stage Five.

Director of the sixth form, Joe Simm, delivered a speech about the school’s vision of providing the best education for their students.

He said: "A-Level success is not something that exists in our genes; it's a skill our teaching team works with students to nurture and develop.

"We are so proud of our school, the students and results we get. It is our pleasure to see students leave in Year 13 to go onto dream degree apprenticeships and courses at top universities such as Cambridge, Newcastle and Exeter.

"The open evening was all about showing that off, and welcoming in our next cohort of Year 12s.

"We can’t wait to see where they will be heading in two years’ time, and look forward to working with them on their journey there."

Assistant headteacher John Shepley and director of Year 11 Nick Denham also spoke about the importance of recognising achievement and acknowledging students’ hard work towards their subjects.

Earlier in the day, the entire Year 11 cohort took part in a mock interview day where they were quizzed by various company representatives.

Teachers were asked to nominate students for Outstanding Progress and Outstanding Attitude to Learning and invited the winners on stage to receive their certificates and prizes.
