A chip shop owner will support those on hard times by opening a pop-up soup kitchen in the run-up to Christmas.

Aytach 'Joe' Gullu, 42, has only been in Watford for four months, but says exploring the town has opened his eyes to the fact people are in need.

So this Tuesday, he will transform the front of Joe's Fish and Chips in Queens Road into a soup kitchen where people are welcome to drop by and grab a snack, drink, or just say hello.

Hackney-born Mr Gullu explained: "It's Christmas time so should always try and do something nice for those less fortunate. It's nice to do things for other people.

"There's a need for more of a community spirit generally, not just in Watford, and we need to bring that spirit back. Doing something like this can help that."

Watford Observer:

Father-of-two Mr Gullu will be hosting 'Joe's for for those in need' this coming Tuesday (December 17) and says he has aspirations to do this more than once a year.

He added that he has had the support of fellow businesses in Queens Road and wants to turn the event into a Christmas tradition for the street.

Those in need, elderly people, and ex-servicemen and women, are welcome to drop by from 1pm until 4pm this Tuesday.
