A man who was assaulted after being struck on the head with a branch tree is being investigated by Essex Police.

The victim, a man aged in his 70s, was assaulted in the street in Warren Court, Grange Hill, near Chigwell, just before 6.20pm on Saturday, December 7.

He suffered superficial wounds after being hit over the back of a head and was kicked several times after he fell to the floor.

The suspect, a man described as wearing a long coat and having his hair in ringlets, then left the scene in the direction of Grange Hill train station.

Police are also looking at CCTV footage from nearby Grange Hill train station.

The victim was then taken to Whipps Cross University Hospital for medical treatment.
