Police officers knocked on more than 150 doors to discuss policing issues within the community.

Homes in Coates Way, Coates Dell and Kytes Drive, Garston, were visited by Sergeant Mark Palmer and three PC's and eight police community support officers on Sunday.

The officers' main focus was to get residents on board with Online Watch Link (OWL) - a free community messaging service where members receive emails from the police regrading crime alerts and other information about what’s happening in their area.

In total, more than 50 people signed up to OWL on Sunday.

Sergeant Mark Palmer, who leads the Abbots Langley safer neighbourhood team, said: "Our Safer Streets events offer a great opportunity for residents to speak to us face to face about anything that is worrying them. They are also a really valuable tool for us to gauge what really matters to those who live in the community we protect and serve.

"We’re able to use the information gathered to set our neighbourhood policing priorities, which are refreshed every six months.

"It also gave us chance to record which properties have CCTV or doorbell cameras fitted, meaning if a crime is reported in that area we know which households to approach for footage.

"During the event, we also identified some members of the community that need further support, so we have taken their details as well as signposting them to external services.

"We hope residents enjoyed their visits from us yesterday, but those who weren’t in can still tell us what matters to them by using our feedback service, echo. Please tell us what you think we should be focusing our resources on.

"You can use the online feedback form at bit.ly/police-alangley or send a text to 66099."
