FURIOUS residents harangued Waltham Forest Council's head of street services last night.

Robin Carter was speaking about traffic problems around Staffa Road, Leyton, at the Walthamstow and Lea Bridge Community Council meeting.

However residents of Burwell Road, Overton Road and Wellington Road repeatedly shouted him down. They said their lives have been blighted for years by lorries using their streets to access the Argall Avenue industrial estate, Mr Carter said the council was investigating whether a firm accessible only through the residential area was operating legally.

He also assured residents that new signs directing heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) away from their homes would soon be in place.

Harold Webb, of Overton Road, replied: "You're doing nothing about it. You think putting up notices will help, but they'll do nothing. It's a joke."
