Over three quarters of households in the borough are set to be assigned a new bin collection day – so look out for notice of your's in the post.

More than 75 per cent of Waltham Forest households will have a new bin collection day come March 2.

Rubbish and recycling will still be collected weekly, with garden and food waste collected every two weeks for most of the borough.

The changes come as the council and neighbourhood services contractor Urbaser seek to improve waste and recycling collection efficiency.

Urbaser took over waste and recycling in September of last year, securing an eight-year £12.8m per annum contract.

Residents subject to the changes should receive a card in the post confirming their new day soon.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, deputy leader for the council and cabinet member for environment, said: “Over the last ten years the borough has seen significant changes with new developments - detailed analysis has been undertaken of the borough’s properties, bin numbers and road network to devise the new collection routes to improve efficiency and deliver best value to our residents.

“We will also be using separate vehicles to collect waste and recycling, we know residents are used to having their bins collected by the same vehicle but using separate vehicles means more can fit as there is additional space, allowing the crews to stay out collecting for longer before having to travel back and empty each load saving both time and fuel.”

From March 2, Urbaser will also be offering collection services for small electrical items, clothing including pairs of shoes, and household batteries.

These items must be left out on top of the green and brown recycling bins on a normal collection day, inside a plastic bag. They should not be placed inside any of the wheelie bins.

Anyone unsure of their bin collection day can visit the council website.
