Frank Jackson (Stop vilifying Corbyn, Letters, February 20) tries to defend Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership. But Mr Jackson doesn’t even mention the main reason why people did not support the Labour Party - its ever more fervent support for the EU.

Also, people knew that before Corbyn was elected leader, he had been passionately anti-EU – so, his conversion to supporting EU membership destroyed his claim to be a ‘man of principle’.

Corbyn was no more trustworthy on the other issue of national importance – whether we stay as one country. His proposed collaboration with the Scottish National Party would have destroyed our national unity.

A Corbyn/Sturgeon government would have called two unnecessary referendums, two attempts to annul previous majority democratic decisions. This would have fostered fresh separatist feeling in Scotland and Wales, and renewed uncertainty for business and jobs.
