A primary school has confirmed that a pupil has tested positive for coronavirus.

Katherines Primary Academy on Brookside, Harlow, said that the student in reception is now self-isolating alongside their family.

Headteacher Annette Norris sent an email to tell parents and guardians of the news.

It reads: "It may have already come to your attention that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the reception class.

"This information has only just been reported to the school this afternoon (Monday, March 16).

"The child has been absent from school for the last week.

"The parent has been informed today by the NHS that their child has COVID-19 and the family are in self-isolation."

The school also tweeted to say high hygiene standards are in place and the child has been absent since Monday, March 9

Public Health England have advised the school to remain open.

In Essex, there have been 25 people who have tested positive for coronavirus cases.

As of 9am on Monday, March 16, there are 1,543 positive cases of Covid-19.

At least 55 UK patients who tested positive for the virus have died.

The government are now holding daily televised press conferences to update the public on the fight against coronavirus.
