Essex has experienced a spike of 42 new Covid-19 cases over 24 hours.
Public Health England has now confirmed a total of 130 coronavirus cases across the county.
A number of bordering London boroughs have also seen large increase in cases.
There are now 95 confirmed cases in Waltham Forest and 89 in Redbridge.
London accounts for 3,919 of the UK’s 11,658 cases of the deadly virus which has so far claimed 578 lives.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus, Downing Street confirmed today.
"He was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England's chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty," a statement said.
He will remain in charge of the government's coronavirus plans while self-isolating in Downing Street.
