Confirmed coronavirus infections across Waltham Forest and Redbridge have surpassed the 500 mark.

As of April 2, Public Health England had confirmed 290 Covid-19 infections in Waltham Forest and 212 in Redbridge.

NHS England today revealed five coronavirus patients had died at hospitals run by Barts Heath NHS Trust and two had died at hospitals run by Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust.

London accounts for 9,291 of the UK’s 33,718 total cases of the deadly virus which has so far claimed 2,921 lives.

The government has announced plans to write off £13.4 billion of historic NHS Trust debt to enable trusts to better fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Matt Hancock announced the financial package at today’s (April 2) press conference, his first public appearance since self-isolating with Covid-19 symptoms.

The health secretary also announced new measures to boost coronavirus testing, for both NHS staff and the public, with an aim to deliver 100,000 tests a day by the end of the month.
