Six more coronavirus patients being cared for by West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust have died.

In its latest update, NHS England has confirmed six more deaths at the trust, which runs Watford General Hospital, between April 1 and April 3.

Four people were confirmed to have died in one day on April 2, according to NHS England.

A total of 37 people being looked after at the trust are now confirmed to have died after contracting Covid-19.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the last 24 hours may actually have taken place days earlier.

Across England a further 555 people have died, taking the number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 4,494.

The patients were aged between 33 years and 103 years old.

Some 29 patients had no known underlying health conditions.

NHS England said in a statement: "A further 555 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 4,494.

"Patients were aged between 33 years and 103 years old. 29 of the 555 patients (aged between 35 and 95 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

"Their families have been informed."

Yesterday a critical incident was declared at Watford General Hospital, but this has since been stood down.

It was declared because of a "technical issue with the hospital's oxygen equipment".

The entire hospital was shut to new patients except the maternity unit and people were told to go they would need to find alternative emergency care at another hospital.

However, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, stood down the critical incident at 10.30pm on Saturday night.
