Cassiobury Park was almost empty this afternoon after hundreds people ignored the coronavirus lockdown guidance at the weekend.

On Saturday, Police requested Watford Borough Council close the park's car park after officers patrolling became alarmed by the vast numbers of people arriving.

Police in Watford say they had to clear hundreds of people from Cassiobury Park who were not out for essential exercise or were meeting with people outside of their household.

But Watford Police posted a photo on facebook this afternoon showing the park to be largely clear.

Police said: "We want to say a HUGGEEE thank you to the residents of Watford!!!

"This is Cassiobury Park, now, at lunch time which is a huge difference to what we were presented with over the weekend. Officers spotted a few people out on their exercise but all abiding by Covid-19 legislation."

However, Watford Police said some people are still not listening to Government guidance elsewhere in the town, with officers still getting reports of people visiting the town centre and other people's houses unnecessarily.

People should only leave their homes for essential items, getting exercise once a day and only travelling for essential work.

Government guidance also says that those who do go out should only do so with members of their household and must stay two metres (6ft) away from other people at all times.

Watford Police said: "We want to remind residents, patrols are ongoing and fines are being issued for the people in disregard of this.

"But a genuine thank you to everyone working together through this difficult time and helping us out by following Government instructions."

If you are caught flouting the government restrictions, you can be fined £60, reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.
