NHS England has confirmed a further 866 coronavirus patients have died in hospitals across the country.

In its lastest update, NHS England said that 14 of the new patients confirmed to have died were being cared for by Barts Health NHS Trust.

It takes the total death toll at the trust which runs Whipps Cross Hospital to 203.

Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs King George Hospital in Ilford, recorded a further 20 deaths, taking the trust's death toll up to 118.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the last 24 hours may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of COVID-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Nationally, 8,114 coronavirus patients have now died at hospitals across the country.

Of the 866 new deaths announced today, 117 occurred on April 9 while 720 took place between April 1 and April 8.

The remaining 29 deaths occurred in March, including one on March 5.

The patients were aged between 27 and 100 years old.

NHS England said in a statement: “A further 866 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

“Patients were aged between 27 and 100 years old.  56 of the 866 patients (aged between 40 and 93 years old) had no known underlying health condition.
