Six new coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed at east London hospitals today.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen's Hospital in Romford, announced no new deaths.

The trust hit 400 deaths since the start of the pandemic yesterday.

Neighbouring Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross in Leytonstone and four other hospitals, confirmed just six new deaths from the virus.

So far, the trust has seen 587 deaths among patients who have tested positive for the novel virus.

According to Public Health England, 160 people died from the virus yesterday, a slight reduction from the day before.

This figure includes both those in hospitals and those in care homes and the community.

More than 2,600 people tested positive for coronavirus yesterday.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been more than 31,000 deaths from the disease in England.

It is thought that more than 11,600 people may have died in UK care homes so far.
