Four new coronavirus-related deaths were announced at east London hospitals today.

Yesterday, the number of new deaths in hospitals was zero for the first time in more than a month.

Across the nation, there were 185 deaths confirmed in hospitals and 192 confirmed in the wider community.

A total of 1,007 people have died at either Barts Health NHS Trust or neighbouring Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) since the start of the pandemic.

Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone and four other hospitals, has seen the most deaths from the virus of any London trust and announced three more today.

BHRUT, which manages King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen's Hospital in Romford, announced one new death, after two days of the death toll not rising.

Almost 1,900 new people tested positive for the virus yesterday, according to Public Health England.

Since the start of the pandemic, more than 37,800 UK residents have died.
