Three new coronavirus-related deaths were announced at east London hospitals today.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), which manages King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen's Hospital in Romford, announced two.

Neighbouring Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross in Leytonstone and four other hospitals, announced just one.

Across the nation, there were 149 deaths confirmed in hospitals and 228 confirmed in the wider community, figures that are similar to but slightly higher than the tolls from yesterday.

A total of 1,010 people have died at either Barts Health NHS Trust or neighbouring Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) since the start of the pandemic in March.

Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone and four other hospitals, has seen the most deaths from the virus of any London trust.

Almost 1,900 new people tested positive for the virus yesterday, according to Public Health England.

Since the start of the pandemic, almost 38,000 UK residents have died.
