A squatted venue just off Leytonstone High Road that held three raves last month has now been shut down.

Gatherings were held at a large venue on Joseph Ray Road on May 17, May 23 and May 24.

Police attended and “spoke with the occupants” on the night of the first event and also on May 25, after the weekend’s events had finished.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “On Monday, May 25 in partnership with Waltham Forest Council, a noise abatement notice was obtained and served.

“On Tuesday, June 2, a repossession notice was obtained by the Met and Waltham Forest Council, and served.”

No one was arrested.

Deputy leader Cllr Clyde Loakes added: “Waltham Forest Neighbourhood and Enforcement Officers worked with the police and others to close down an illegally squatted venue in Leytonstone which was being used to host a number of illegal raves, in clear contravention of the lockdown rules and regulations.

“We have a duty at this time to protect the safety of our residents and visitors to the borough throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It is still important that we all take steps to stop the spread of the virus, which includes not hosting or attending large gatherings at this time.”

BBC Radio 5 Live’s Investigation Unit were tipped off to a private Instagram page where the raves were advertised.

Tickets were reportedly sold via a Whatsapp group for £15.
