MORE than a hundred people took part in a colourful cycle ride to celebrate a new route.
The Sunday celebration was to mark the introduction of the new Old Shoreham Road cycle lane in Hove.
The cyclists and their families had brightly coloured flags attached to their bicycles and were accompanied along the route by two “disco bikes” with sound systems mounted on them.
The ride, organised by Extinction Rebellion Brighton, began at Hove Park and did two loops along the cycle route, going west as far as Portslade and east to The Drive. Paul Taylor, 60, from Seven Dials, is a spokesman for Extinction Rebellion Brighton.
He said: “It was amazing to see so many people, young and old, out riding in a colourful cycle convoy. Brighton residents dearly want to be able to cycle safely in the city and this route is a positive step towards that.”
“We look forward to similar schemes being implemented elsewhere in Brighton so we can all get about safely, healthily – and in a way that cuts pollution and tackles climate change. Getting more people on pedal-powered transport is a win, win, win, win.”
