Wimbledon Championships was set to start this week, with plans for their Head Pastry Chef Rebecca to serve thousands of tennis fans.

However, the pandemic resulted in the cancellation of Wimbledon 2020, meaning Rebecca Marshman-Rondeau, wouldn't be able to serve anyone.

Rebecca, 27, decided to set herself the challenge of a 24-hour 'bakeathon' to use her passion to treat frontline staff, whilst also fundraising for National Marine Aquarium.

The National Marine Aquarium relies heavily on visitors to fund vital habitat restoration and behaviour change programmes.

Wimbledon Times:

Even when closed to the public, the cost of operating the largest Aquarium in the UK can be up to £10,000 a day.

The 'bakeathon' which was filmed live on YouTube, took place on Monday at 8.00 am, until Tuesday (June 30) 8.00 am.

Rebecca created cakes, tray bakes, cookies and biscuits to deliver to frontline staff across UK hospitals, including, St Georges Hospital and Great Ormond Street.

She hopes her fundraiser will help The National Marine Aquarium in line with it's opening on July 6.

Wimbledon Times:

Speaking to Wimbledon Times, Rebecca said: "Although the championships sadly isn’t going ahead this year, it is so nice to be able to use my passion outside of work to help such a fantastic cause.

"Sure, 24 hours of non-stop baking might sound crazy, but I wanted to go big for the National Marine Aquarium!

"I was shattered by the end of the 24 hours and I was definitely running on adrenaline.

"I love it there and I have some wonderful memories of visiting with my partner and our godson.

Wimbledon Times:

"I know during lockdown they have been relying solely on donations.

"I feel so grateful and honoured to have been invited to help them continue their work- whilst providing some delicious treats to our incredible NHS."

Ocean Conservation Trust’s CEO, Roger Maslin, said: “One of the biggest challenges that the aquarium has faced over the last few months, is the ongoing costs of feeding and maintaining the fish and animals.

"We are extremely grateful to Rebecca and everyone involved in helping support the aquarium, whilst also supporting NHS workers."

Donations reached £4365 out of the targeted £10,000 at the time of publishing.
