FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze for more than 12 hours after flames erupted in a barn. 

West Sussex Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene in Shipley at 6.22pm yesterday evening after a fire broke out in a large barn which was full of hay. 

Crews from Horsham Fire Station, Worthing and Burgess Hill battled the flames in the agricultural building off Dragon’s Green Road using jets and high pressure hose reels.

They stayed at the scene of the fire until 7.58am this morning.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called to reports of an agricultural building on fire at a farm off Dragon’s Green Road in Shipley at 6.22pm on Sunday

“Two fire engines from Horsham Fire Station were mobilised to the scene along with crews from Worthing and Burgess Hill.

The Argus:

"The Water Carrier from Burgess Hill was also sent to the incident.

“Upon arrival, crews found a large barn full of hay on fire and got to work using covering jets and high pressure hose reels to prevent the spread of the fire.

“A crew remained at the scene of the fire throughout the night, with the incident closed at 7.58am this morning.”
